History of Nigeria

Nigeria's history can be traced from the old prehistoric settlers residing in this region from around 11,000 BC.

The inhabitants dominated the south-western region of Nigeria. On the other hand, the Yoruba settlers have been dominating the western area of the Niger. Evidence shows that their closest linguistic relatives are the Igala. Located in West Africa, the country Nigeria derives its name from the Niger River. Flora Shaw, the colonial administrator of Britain, was the first person to coin this name in the nineteenth century.

Transportation

By Air: The country is home to various international airports located in Kano, Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Enugu. However, the international and domestic terminals in Lagos are not located too close to each other; rather they lie at a distance of several miles. Hence, make sure that one has a sufficient time if traveling from the domestic to international airport or vice versa. Even before two years, the Port Harcourt International Airport was not in complete service; however, as of now people can access the same to reach Nigeria.
By train: Usually, train service in Nigeria is limited for cargo transportation. On the other hand, it is advisable to foreign nationals to not travel on train.
By bus: This is perhaps a convenient option to go in for, provided one does not care much about the traffic jams that hit almost all major cities of Nigeria. One can avail here, various buses and coaches that will take him/her to the various regions of the country. State government buses can be taken on Lagos tour. Finally, ABC and CHISCO Transport are equally reliable and can help travel between Lagos and Accra.
